New Deck and Yard Reset
The boards were grey and spongy and the yard had grown in around them. New surface over the whole footprint with the rail rebuilt, then the ground cleared, graded and finished in river rock — so the yard reads as part of the deck instead of something creeping up on it.

Stone walkway relaid
The old path had sunk and spread until it sat in water after every storm. Lifted, re-graded, and relaid on a compacted base with a cut edge, so it runs clean down the side of the house.

Porch
Open porch, screened in
The old pickets came off and the openings were framed and screened floor to header. Skirting below was run in matching vertical slat, so the whole side of the house reads as one piece instead of three.

Railing
New railing on an existing deck
The deck surface still had years in it; the railing did not. Pressure-treated frame built up around the full perimeter, black wire mesh let in so the view stays open, then steps and a stone landing down to the grass.

Repair
Back steps, rebuilt
Small job, big difference. The old treads were mossy, cupped and pulling away from the house. Rebuilt wider in pressure-treated pine with a proper handrail down to the patio.

Rot repair — the part you can't see
The boards had gone through and the rim joist was soft the whole length. Bad framing out, new structure in, decked and finished so the whole thing sheds water instead of holding it.

Deck & wire-mesh rail
Composite run the length of the house, turned out to a seating area at the end. Enough rail to be safe, little enough of it to still see the woods.
Cable rail on a raised deck
Cable keeps the view open where a picket rail would close it in. Set on new posts with a gravel bed underneath to keep water off the framing.
Screened porch
Screened in, floor refinished, fan overhead. The part of the house that gets used every evening from May to October.
Deck, fence & fire pit
One winter's work: multi-level deck and stairs, privacy fence the length of the lot, and a flagstone pad for the fire pit with lights strung over it.
Cobblestone patio
Laid by hand on a compacted base, edged and swept tight. The kind of ground that still sits flat in ten years.
Deck on the pond
A wide pine deck run right out toward the water, railed along the pond edge and framed between pergola posts so the view does the work.
